There isn't a time in the year when chocolate isn't in the spotlight. It is a tasty, comforting food that is highly regarded in many cultures. Nevertheless, there is a period when it is particularly popular: Easter. Eggs, rabbits, chickens and small chocolates of all kinds appear in the windows of chocolate shops.
But where does this tradition come from? Why eat chocolate?

Origins and traditions

There are many origins and stories to the Easter holiday and the chocolate hunt.

The feast of Easter has its origins in the Catholic religion. It celebrates the end of Lent, a period of deprivation, during which eggs - symbols of life and fertility - could not be eaten. In order not to lose them, they were cooked in aromatic herbs which colored them, in order to differentiate them from other eggs.

Thus, tradition says that the eggs are brought by the Easter bells that return from Rome after Holy Week.

But in this case, why often speak of the famous “Easter bunny”?

The origin of this rabbit would come from a German legend. A poor woman, unable to offer sweets and sweets to her children, decided to paint eggs which she hid in the garden. While his children were looking for them, they saw a rabbit, and believed that it was he who had laid the eggs.

From these origins, rabbits and eggs have remained strong symbols and often represented in chocolate for the Easter holidays.
While the children are taking a nap, or are busy with other activities, the rabbit, or the bells, according to beliefs, pass through the gardens to hide sweets and chocolates.
